I hope secondary teachers are using NBC Learn as a resource when planning instruction! NBC Learn is a new resource available for secondary (6-12) CMS teachers. It is an online resource with thousands of videos from NBC News that can be used in classwork, homework, presentations, and instruction. It is updated daily with the latest current events videos from NBC News and original educational videos created specifically for the classroom. Sponsored through a grant, our secondary teachers have access to literally thousands of "texts" online. This is a great way to triangulate text sources, including videos, speeches, tables, charts, photos, etc. All text resources have cue cards available electronically on the site, which provides the user the transcript for selected texts along with bibliographic information.
Teachers may search the Common Core State Standards-aligned resources by content area or standard. This is a great way to create text sets or paired selections for students. It affords teachers a quick way to access texts to provide extended learning opportunities. These texts could easily be used as part of a center or learning station, for independent or guided instruction, for appropriate background knowledge, or as an extension of learning.
